Privacy Policy — Mindful Spend

Short version: Mindful Spend does not collect, transmit, or sell any of your data. Everything it stores stays on your own device.

What the extension stores

Mindful Spend saves the following locally, using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API:

• Purchase decisions you log (need/want, buy/wait/skip), the domain and URL of the page, and any amount you choose to enter
• Optional mood tags you select before a decision, and mood/regret responses from later check-ins
• A list of domains you've chosen to mute
• Your preferences, such as whether demo speed is turned on

None of this data ever leaves your device. There is no account, no login, and no server that Mindful Spend sends data to. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it permanently.

What the extension does NOT do

• It does not access your bank accounts, payment methods, or financial credentials
• It does not read the contents of pages beyond checking the page URL and scanning for generic button text (e.g. "place order") to decide whether to show the pause prompt
• It does not use analytics, tracking pixels, or any third-party service
• It does not sell or share data with anyone, because no data is ever transmitted anywhere

Permissions and why they're needed

• storage — to save your logged decisions and preferences locally on your device
• alarms — to schedule delayed check-in reminders and the weekly digest notification
• notifications — to show you the check-in and weekly digest notifications
• tabs — to open the check-in survey in a new tab when you click a notification, and to trigger a manual pause on your currently active tab when you use the "Pause me here" button
• host permissions (all sites) — the pause prompt needs to be able to appear on any shopping site you might visit, since people don't all shop on the same handful of retailers. The extension only looks at the page's URL and generic button text; it does not read or store the page's content.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version adds an optional account or sync feature — this page will be updated and the extension's Chrome Web Store listing will note the change.
